Spring 2025 - Once Upon a Time
Rugby skills
The children showed great enthusiasm when taking part in the different multi-sports activities this week. To begin with they took part in the 'Shark Attack' game. This involved a small number of children being the 'Sharks' and the rest of them being fish with tails. The aim was for the fish to get to one line of cones across to the other side without having their tails taken by a shark. Another activity was called 'Passing Catch Up Game'. In this game the children had to learn to use a swing pass to move the ball around the circle. The children worked brilliantly in their teams and concentrated well in order to be ready to catch and pass the ball on quickly.
Year 1 World Book Day
What an exciting start to World Book Day! The children arrived in their pyjamas or comfy clothes, clutching cuddly toys and their favourite books. Lots of the children were also holding decorated potatoes and were so excited to share them with their friends. During the day, the children took part in paired reading activities, buddy reading as well as taking part in a live session. We listened to the author Lauren Baker reading 'The Full Stop That Got Away' and then took part in the draw along session. It was lovely to see how well the children concentrated and how pleased they were with their finished drawings.
Year 1 Wellbeing Week Activities
Year One had a fantastic time when taking part in the different theme activities during Mental Health and Wellbeing week. They showed great enthusiasm when making their castles using a range of junk modelling resources. Throughout the activity the children showed great creative skills and were very proud of the finished castles.
During the afternoon we went outside to take part in a jousting session. Great fun was had by all the children as they took on the role of the knights.
The children also took part in Forest School, Yoga as well as the 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself' art activity.
English WOW words
We have all been working very hard to find out about wow words (adjectives). The children chose objects and used wow words to describe them. In the hall the children were really keen to sort the objects into sets using different wow words. Following on from this activity, the children worked with a partner to describe the new character in our story using wow words in sentences.
#SLIDESHOW_{2807}
What an exciting afternoon! The children showed great enthusiasm when learning how to use the mouthpieces to go with the PBuzz instruments. We all learnt how to make a 'buzz' sound like a bee and then learnt a song about a duck who went 'quack, quack, quack'! It was very exciting using the mouthpieces and made everyone smile! Next week we will be exploring the Pbuzz instruments.
Happy New Year!
This term we will be finding out about life in the past and will research how castles came to England. The children will learn about Motte and Bailey castles, how to attack and defend castles as well as investigating how and why castles changed. In Art and DT the children will be looking at patterns and symbols and will design and make their own shields. We will be learning some medieval dances and will listen and respond to music and songs from the past. It will be a very busy and exciting term!
