Spring Term - Eureka!
Year 5 Enjoy a Wonderful Afternoon at Forest School
As part of Children's Mental Health Week, our Year 5 pupils had a fantastic afternoon at Forest School, embracing nature and enjoying outdoor learning.
The children took part in a range of activities, including den building, whittling, and teamwork challenges.
Being in nature provided a perfect setting for mindfulness and creativity, helping the children to unwind and connect with their surroundings. The session reinforced the benefits of outdoor learning and the positive impact it has on mental health.
A huge thank you to our Forest School leader, Mrs Edwards, for creating such an enriching experience. We look forward to more adventures in the great outdoors!
A Taste of Greece Food Technology Day
This week, Year 5 had a fantastic hands-on experience during our Food Technology Day, exploring the delicious world of Greek cuisine! With the generous support of Greek on the Docks, we sampled a variety of traditional Greek foods before trying our hand at cooking a classic dish ourselves.
The day began with a Greek food tasting session, where the children sampled authentic dishes such as tzatziki, spanakopita, pita bread, and traditional greek orange cake (Revani). This experience introduced them to new flavours and sparked discussions about different ingredients used in Greek cuisine.
Following the tasting, the children took part in a cooking session in school, where they made their own moussaka. This activity allowed them to develop their food preparation skills while learning about balanced meals and healthy eating.
A huge thank you to Greek on the Docks for providing the food for our tasting session and to our wonderful PTA for covering the cost of this enriching experience. We look forward to more exciting food technology adventures in the future!
Year 5 Create Blackout Poetry Inspired by 'Who Let the Gods Out'
This week, Year 5 have been diving into the imaginative world of Who Let the Gods Out by Maz Evans. As part of their English lessons, the class explored Chapter 3 to create their very own blackout poems.
Using pages from the chapter, the children carefully selected words and phrases to form meaningful poems while ‘blacking out’ the rest of the text. The results were creative, powerful, and often deeply moving, as they discovered how to repurpose an author’s words to tell new stories.
Not only did this activity spark creativity, but it also helped the class think critically about word choice and meaning. Well done, Year 5 – your poems are inspiring!
We’re proud of their work and hope they’ve inspired others to try this unique form of poetry. Keep an eye on the website for examples of their fantastic creations!
