Class 5 - Jungle Fever
Year 5's Sweet Adventure at Cadbury World!
Year 5 had a truly chocolatey treat this week with an unforgettable trip to Cadbury World! The day was packed with exciting activities and learning experiences that brought smiles to everyone’s faces (and maybe a little chocolate to their hands).
The adventure began with a tour of the Bournville Museum, where the children explored the fascinating history of the Cadbury brand and its roots in the picturesque village of Bournville. They discovered how the Cadbury brothers revolutionized the chocolate industry and learned about the company’s commitment to ethical practices.
Next, the 4D Chocolate Adventure took the children on an exhilarating ride into the world of chocolate-making. With 4D effects and an immersive storyline, they felt like they were diving into a river of melted chocolate—an experience they’ll be talking about for weeks!
The highlight for many was the educational workshop that connected their chocolatey discoveries to the rainforest. They deepened their understanding of where cocoa comes from and the vital role rainforests play in the chocolate production process. This tied beautifully into their recent classwork on the rainforest.
Throughout the day, the children embodied our school values and were true Carlos Cats by asking thoughtful and insightful questions, showing curiosity at every turn. They also embraced their inner Polly Penguins by enthusiastically participating in all activities, whether it was sampling chocolate, engaging with interactive exhibits, or taking notes during the workshop.
Their impeccable behaviour was noted by all the staff at Cadbury World—they were truly a credit to our school. Well done, Year 5, for making this trip so special and for representing our school so brilliantly!
Keep up the amazing work and stay curious! 🐾🍫
SHS Outreach Programme: Wednesdays of Creativity and Discovery
Every Wednesday, our school has been buzzing with excitement as students from SHS have been leading an amazing outreach programme. Over the past few weeks, we've had the chance to dive into both the world of art and science, and it's been nothing short of fantastic!
Art Adventures with Yayoi Kusama
For the first two weeks, the focus was on art, inspired by the renowned artist Yayoi Kusama. Known for her vibrant and whimsical designs, Kusama's work often features polka dots and nature themes. Our students took inspiration from her unique style and created their own stunning artworks, focusing on pointillism—a technique that uses tiny dots of color to create images.
One of the highlights was the creation of pointillism mushrooms! Using vibrant colors and a lot of patience, everyone worked hard to make these fantastic pieces come to life. The classroom was filled with creativity and laughter as each student put their personal touch on their mushrooms. I'm sure you’ll agree that the final results looked amazing!
Exploring Science: Testing Liquids
After our artistic journey, we shifted gears into the exciting world of science! Students learned how to test different liquids to determine whether they are acidic or alkaline. This hands-on activity was both educational and fun, as they used various indicators to see how the liquids reacted.
By experimenting with everyday items, students discovered how to use litmus paper and other testing methods. This practical approach not only helped them understand important scientific concepts but also sparked their curiosity about the world around them.
A Bright Future Ahead
The outreach programme has been a wonderful way to blend creativity with scientific inquiry. Each Wednesday has brought new experiences, and we can’t wait to see what the next weeks have in store! A huge thank you to the SHS students for their hard work and enthusiasm in making these sessions so engaging.

Welcome to Year 5
Hello, everyone!
What an exciting start to the school year we've had in Year 5! It's hard to believe how quickly the summer has flown by, but we've all settled in beautifully. The children are not only back into their routines, but they're also bursting with enthusiasm for our thrilling theme: Jungle Fever!
We've been diving deep into the fascinating world of jungles, exploring the vibrant flora and fauna that call them home. To kick off our creative journey, we've taken inspiration from the marvellous artwork of Henri Rousseau. The children have embraced the vivid textures and patterns in his paintings, producing some fabulous pieces of art that truly capture the spirit of the jungle.
As we continue to explore the wonders of the jungle, I'm looking forward to what the rest of this term will bring. Stay tuned for more updates on our adventures in Year 5!
