Viking Residential Year 3 and 4

Year 3 and 4 went to the Ancient Technology Centre in Dorset this week on a Viking residential. The children had a fantastic time living like Vikings. They had to make their own food, dress up like Vikings, do chores such as wood chopping, brick making and cleaning wool ready for spinning. They slept in a Viking longhouse on sheepskin rugs. Some people had hardly any sleep but they had a really good time. Here are some pictures of our trip.

World Book Day

We have had a great day today celebrating World Book Day! The children dressed up as their favourite book character and lots of them brought in their favourite books too.

All the classes took part in book-themed activities and designed bunting to go up around class Book Corners. We also had a ‘DEAR’ activity – Drop Everything And Read’ – where the bell goes at random times during the day and the children (and adults!) literally drop what they are doing, pick up their book, and read for five minutes! The children really enjoyed this during the day. Check out our photos of our costume competition winners.DSC_1050

New reception area opened by the Bishop of Tewkesbury

On Monday the 17th December we were delighted that the Bishop of Tewkesbury, Rt Revd Robert Springett, came to Bussage Primary School to officially open our new reception area and office.

After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, the Bishop then attend a special assembly.

The Bishop of Tewkesbury commented; “Such a joy to celebrate with Bussage School the completion of their new entrance hall. A great school with doors wide open to serve the community, firmly rooted in Christian values.”

The Headmaster, Andrew Ferguson added; “Our new reception and office area extension is one of the most significant pieces of structural work to have been completed since the school was first built. We were honoured that Bishop Robert was able to officiate at the official opening today and the children enjoyed performing for and listening to him.”

Thank you to everybody that attended and helped to set up the event.

WW1 History Week

The whole school took part in a history week to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War. During the week the children took part in a WW1 Workshop where they learnt about life as a soldier in the trenches. Each class made clay poppies and doves for a poppy memorial garden display. Other activities included visiting the war memorial in Eastcombe, a WW1 themed school day and a victory tea party. The week culminated in an exhibition of children’s work in the school hall and open classrooms to share their learning with friends and relatives. The whole week was extremely successful and a great experience for the children.

Shamanei Primary School, Kenya Visit

During half term, Mrs Barwell, Mrs Hale and I went out to Kenya to visit Shamanei Primary School who we have been linked with since 2015.

We taught a number of lessons including Wake and Shake, Parachute Games and sessions based around Critical Thinking. Both schools are now committing to a three year project looking at:

  • – Digital Literacy
  • – Citizenship
  • – Critical Thinking

We are looking forward to maintaining this highly successful partnership.

Our Ethos, Vision and Values

In 2017 a lot of work was carried out by governors, staff and parents, to update our old Bussage Primary School Vision into our new Ethos, Vision and Values and we would like to thank all of those involved for their time and commitment to this.

Going forward the Head, staff and children will be working on some displays to help present our new Ethos, Vision & Values in a more visual way. In the meantime, if you’d like to read about our Ethos, Vision and Values, please click here.
